The project is a three-year initiative launched by PLAN West Africa. The aim is to educate young people about gender inequality, discrimination and violence as well as teach them skills including interviewing, script writing, and radio presentation. Around 25% of the participants in the programme are boys. As well as raising awareness among participants, the project aims to break down gender stereotyping and prejudice in their audience. The project is running in Sierra Leone, Ghana, Liberia and Togo. They have been championed by East Wing, an organisation based in Qatar that aims to 'present new perspectives on topics that matter through pioneering photography and art.' Boushra Almutawakel from Yemen is one of them. She presented two photo series on the demands of Islamic dress - in one called What If, she reversed male and female dress codes. "I heard some really strong comments that I am anti-religious and I should burn in hell," she told euronews. "Some men found it offensive and they thought I was attacking them as men and attacking their maleness and attacking Islam which is far from the truth. It's simply a fantasy in my mind and I thought I would just create it photograpically." Another set on the same subjet used mother, daughter and doll photographs and challenging the freedom of artistic expression in Yemen "You can express youself but within limits," Almutawakel explained. "For example with these (photos) I used myself which was really frightening for me I mean the day before the exhibition I thought I should just stop it because I was afraid of the reaction of everyone: my familly specially and I did it because I could not and women who were willing to be photographed but I am conservativelly dressed - I think I am saying something strongly but but its still within the limits you know like I am not wearing a bikini." Thessalonika's Museum of Photography and the 52nd International Film Festival co-organize this exhibition to show 30 years of work by one of Greece's most important photographers. It includes street scenes, urban life, portraits of celebrities and unknowns, and snapshots of events of all kinds - from local festivals to low brow scenes, much like the photographer's own travels, which for the 61 year-old began in Paris.

It wasn't an easy choice. Photography has become increasingly accepted as an art form over the last 20 years - and like fine art is starting to become an investment. The fair attracted photography professionals from all over the world. A lot of the work on display is by women, and deals with social and political issues. Die Schau befasst sich mit dem Apartheidsystem in Südafrika anhand von gut 500 Exponaten (Fotos und Filmmaterial). Die Ausstellung belegt, wie stark die Rassentrennung den gesamten öffentlichen Raum beherrschte. Ebenfalls beindruckend sei, wie sehr sich das Schreckenssystem im Alltagsleben etablierte, sagt Mark Robbins vom International Center of Photography. "Die scheinbare Normalität all dieser Einschränkungen, denen die Menschen ausgesetzt waren ist etwas, das uns heute stark berührt." Ausgangspunkt der Ausstellung ist 1948, das Jahr, in dem die Nationalpartei der Afrikaaner an die Macht gelangte und den Apartheidstaat aufbaute. Die Ausstellung belegt auch den zum Teil tödlichen Kampf der Schwarzen um soziale Gerechtigkeit, allen voran der Aufstand in Soweto. Einige Fotos gingen um die Welt. Andere waren noch außerhalb Südafrikas zu sehen. "Rise and Fall of Apartheid: Photography and the Bureaucracy of Everyday Life", heißt die Ausstellung (Aufstieg und Fall der Apartheid: Photographie und Bürokratie des Alltags).
