After 3 months of living in Rome as an Erasmus student I decided to put together some shots and footage. The work forms parts of individual projects which take different angles on exploring the socio-cultural and economic impacts of tourism and immigration on Roman architecture, people and collective mindsets. Particular attention is placed upon Bangladeshi and Roma Gypsy immigration, American and Chinese middle-class tourism, and Erasmus student culture - all within the backdrop of the ensuing Italian politico-economic crisis of 2012. Rome, for all its magnificence and grandour as an ancient, vibrant and visually stunning gem of Europe, is infamously one the world's biggest hubs for tourism. As a result, due partly also to related issues of immigration and economic difficulty, the growth of the tourism industry has had a profound effect on Roman business, social cultures and lifestyles.
